IS CBD LEGAL?

The legality of cannabinoid products in the United States is dependent on their concentration and source.

Marijuana and THC are both specifically listed in the U.S. Controlled Substances Act and therefore prohibited under federal law. Twenty-nine U.S. states and Washington D.C. have passed their own cannabis policies permitting the use of medical marijuana with high levels of THC, provided it’s recommended by a licensed physician. Eight of those states and Washington D.C. have gone a step further and legalized the recreational use of marijuana and THC.

CBD is legally available in the United States, but it must be derived from imported high-CBD, low-THC hemp. CBD itself it not listed under the Controlled Substances Act, so it’s legal in all 50 states provided it’s not extracted from marijuana.

If derived from marijuana, CBD is illegal unless obtained through a state-regulated medical marijuana program or in a state that permits recreational marijuana use. CBD products derived from hemp are considered dietary supplements in the U.S. and legal to buy and sell.

IS CBD MOST EFFECTIVE WITH OR WITHOUT THC?

CBD and THC are the strong couple of cannabis compounds, they work well when together. Scientists at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco determined that a combination of THC and CBD has a more potent anti-tumoral effect than either compound alone when they are tested on breast cancer cells lines and brain cancer. Scientific studies have shown that both CBD and THC interact synergistically to enhance each others therapeutic effects.

CAN CBD INTERACT WITH OTHER MEDICATIONS?

Yes it does! CBD will inhibit the cytochrome p450 enzyme which is involved in metabolizing many drugs. Compounds found in grapefruits inhibit the same enzyme group which is why physicians advise patients not to eat the fruit shortly before or after taking any medication. When inhibiting cytochrome p450, CBD can either reduce or increase the effects of the other drugs. It may be advisable for a physician to monitor a patients blood's levels of other medications while consuming CBD.

Yes, but it might cause some problems through customs. CBD is still not legal in all countries, while a few countries like France, China, and Australia are still in grey areas.
